For as long as people have been uploading to video sharing sites, there has been strong demand for metrics around video viewership. Last night, YouTube announced on their blog that they will begin to open up statistics on video viewcounts, sliced in several ways for their users and uploaders.
We applaud YouTube for answering the call of the community to provide more metrics for video uploaders. At Visible Measures, we have felt the demand for better, deeper, and more actionable metrics from all participants in the video value chain for a long time now. As such, we view anything that companies can do to help showcase the need and improve the landscape for video measurement as a plus for the entire ecosystem.
Internet video measurement as a field is evolving rapidly and we are jazzed up about how things are progressing. For companies seeking to create high return campaigns and build media businesses around online video, we believe we have a lot to offer, and what you have seen to date from us and from the industry is just the tip of the iceberg. We are so excited to be participating!
